If You’re In Bible Publishing

I’d like to offer a special welcome to everyone involved in the design, manufacture, publication and marketing of the Bible. I’m grateful to you for visiting the site, and hope that what you read here will be useful and encouraging. This site wouldn’t exist if not for the generosity of industry professionals who’ve offered insight, background, tips on future editions, and review copies of existing ones. Thank you! You can contact me at mark@lectio.org.

Review Copies

On the one hand, I’m not an “influencer” in the modern sense. I don’t write about everything that’s published; I don’t even write about everything that’s sent to me as a review copy. Keep that in mind as you consider whether to send me anything. Quick takes are not my strong point.

Having said that, my approach to writing has been to cover as much ground as possible, spotlighting quality binding and innovative design across the spectrum. I’m interested in every translation and in formats at every price range, provided they illuminate one of those two interests. To provide review copies, please get in touch.

Society of Bible Craftsmanship

One thing I strongly urge everyone with an interest in this industry to do is join the Society of Bible Craftsmanship. I serve on the Advisory Board, and chair the Awards Committee. If you haven’t joined already, please do.

Photography

When I first began writing about Bibles, one of the draws (much to my chagrin) was the photography. It was impossible to see what Bibles looked like before purchasing online, because all the marketing snaps featured packaging instead of product. The times have changed for the better, and now it’s easy to see what you’re getting before you click that button.

If you’re promoting a Bible and would like to use some of my photographs, you’re welcome to do that. Please get in touch. I don’t charge for this, but I do appreciate a credit for the image.

Collaboration

Over the years I have given input to publishers, consulted on new editions, and offered advice where possible. Part of my role with the Society for Bible Craftsmanship involves sharing this kind of encouragement. In addition, I’ve had a longterm dream of collaborating with publishers to create new editions, serving as a kind of art director, if you will. If that’s something you or your organization might be interested in, I would love to hear from you.
